Wiring you for success with structured wiring & EMT

What is Structured Wiring?

Structured wiring is an organized, centrally located cable distribution that bridges a network of audio, video, data, computers, telephone, television, home automation and security signals. Built for an ever connected world, structured wiring enables a house or building to maximize the capabilities of home device systems and allows for easy maintenance and scalable additions.

Structured wiring can be imagined as the brains of the home. There is a central distribution panel and each cable branches to the device or outlet throughout the house or building. Outlets typically have various different jacks to allow flexibility for future needs or new installed devices.

What is Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)?

Electrical metallic tubing or EMT is used to protectively route wire and allows for easy maintenance of future wiring change with little disruption of other wire connections. EMT provides exceptional mechanical protection from external impact, moisture and chemical vapor. Additionally, EMT isolates wire to avoid the risk of short circuits, electrocution or fires. EMT provides electromagnetic shielding and is 100% recyclable.

EMT conduit can be made of plastic, clay, metal or fiber and is often rigid. However, some applications of flexible EMT conduit can be used. EMT conduit is mostly installed by electricians or experienced and specialized technicians like Vista Com. Its use and installation technicalities are often specified by regional wiring regulations.

Advantages of EMT

  • Protection against temperature and external impact
  • Doesn’t stretch or tear
  • Non-combustible and can be firestopped with common building materials
  • Excellent and organized electrical path to ground
  • Compatible with most construction materials
  • Adaptable and can easily accommodate wiring changes
  • 100% recyclable
